Here’s a quick and free way to update the WooCommerce tax rates instead of inputting them one by one 😤
We’ll be using the plugin “Tax Rate Upload” by PNW Design. It’s free, but you have to go through their online purchase flow to download.

Tax Rate Upload uses tax rate tables by Avalara. You can download the rates for each state here.
There’s no individual download for all US states, so you have to select each state one by one.
To save time, you can download the tax rates that I used for all US states here: MediaFire Link (Accessed 2020–01)
You will get each state’s tax rate by zip code in an individual CSV file.
That will be hassle to upload each one individually, so I used this dude’s guide to merge multiple CSV files into one.
You’ll open up terminal, navigate (terminal command cd) to a folder where your CSV files are, then use the following command.
1. Type: "cat *.csv >combined.csv"
2. Hit enterBoom. Now the CSV files are combined.
NOTE: I tried uploading all 50 states in one CSV, but the plugin overloaded. Maybe it can’t handle large CSV files or it isn’t optimized for the current Wordpress/WooCommerce versions.
Shrinking the CSV file to include only around 10 states each fixed this problem.
I combined the CSV files into 5 different files and uploaded each one individually. Here are the files I used: MediaFire Download
And boom! You should be good. Make sure that each upload goes through successfully and that uploads don’t double up by accident.
If state tax rates change though, you’ll have to go through the process of deleting, then re-uploading the tables. The process doesn’t take that long though, so it’s not too bad.
